What’s all this for anyway?

August 10, 2016 By Vivian Leave a Comment

The running thread through all my work is a concept called Metanoia: A fundamental change of thinking.

A transformative change of heart.

Here’s where I’ll borrow the words of another sage, Barbara Sher, to drill that point home.
“Winning to me means getting what you want. Not what your father and mother wanted for you, not what you think you can realistically get in this world, but what you want—your wish, your fantasy, your dream. You’re a winner when you have a life you love. A life where you wake up every morning excited about the day ahead and delighted to be doing what you’re doing, even if you’re sometimes a little nervous and scared.”

Wishcraft is an art.
There is strength in connection. This is why I believe in building community.

Nelson Mandela was known to say that the gift of prison for him was time—to go inward, to imagine the things he most wanted for South Africa. Through his open-heartedness, he became the embodiment of what is called Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a beautiful— and old—concept. According to Wikipedia, at its most basic, Ubuntu can be translated as “human kindness,” but its meaning is much bigger in scope than that. It embodies the ideas of connection, community, and mutual caring for all.

It’s what I wish for myself and the world.
